BYD Unveils Two New Song Family Models Equipped with DM 5.0 Hybrid System
July 24, 2024 – BYD, a leading manufacturer of new energy vehicles (NEVs), is set to launch the 2025 Song Plus DM-i and Song L DM-i on July 25. These two new sport utility vehicles (SUVs) will be the first BYD SUVs to feature the company’s latest DM 5.0 hybrid system.

Song Family Expansion:
BYD’s Song family, the company’s best-selling NEV lineup, is expanding with these two new models. The Song family spans both the Dynasty and Ocean series within BYD’s model lineup.
Current Models:
- Dynasty Lineup: All-electric Song L and hybrid Song Pro DM-i
- Ocean Lineup: Song Plus DM-i and Song Plus EV
Fifth-Generation DM Technology:
BYD introduced its fifth-generation DM technology on May 28, 2024, which offers improved fuel efficiency over its predecessor. This technology made its debut in the Seal 06 DM-i and Qin L DM-i hybrid sedans, both boasting a combined range of over 2,000 kilometers.
First SUVs with DM 5.0:
The Song L DM-i and the updated Song Plus DM-i will be the first BYD SUVs to feature the DM 5.0 technology. The Song L DM-i will join the Dynasty series, while the Song Plus DM-i will be part of the Ocean series.
Pre-Launch Teasers:
- Song L DM-i: BYD unveiled pictures and a video of the Song L DM-i, the hybrid version of the all-electric Song L, two weeks ago. The all-electric Song L was launched on December 15, 2023.
- Song Plus DM-i: Exterior images were unveiled yesterday, and interior details were shared today.
Sales Highlights:
- June 2024 Sales: BYD sold a record 341,658 NEVs in June, up 35.02% year-over-year and 2.97% from May, as announced on July 1, 2024.
- Song Family Sales: In June, the Song family sold 70,219 units, ranking as the top-selling BYD model. This represents a 65.66% year-over-year increase but a 14.55% decrease from May, according to AUTO IN CHINA data.
