BYD Welcomes Over 10,000 Fresh Graduates, with Nearly 80% in R&D Roles

Chinese new energy vehicle (NEV) manufacturer BYD has announced that more than 10,000 fresh college graduates have joined the company. According to a post on Weibo, nearly 70% of these new hires hold master’s or doctoral degrees, and nearly 80% are research and development (R&D) personnel.

BYD, known for its diverse business portfolio that includes automobiles, batteries, consumer electronics assembly, and rail transportation, had a total workforce of 703,504 employees by the end of 2023. This included 524,673 production workers and 104,003 technicians, as detailed in the company’s annual report.

As of the end of 2023, 31,506 of BYD’s employees held a master’s degree or higher, and 89,914 had a bachelor’s degree. This influx of highly educated talent underscores the company’s commitment to innovation and technological advancement.

BYD’s Rapid Growth in the NEV Market

Over the past few years, BYD has become the world’s largest NEV maker, selling 3,024,417 NEVs in 2023, representing a 62.3% increase year-on-year. The company also saw strong overseas sales growth, with 242,765 NEVs sold internationally in 2023, a 493.51% increase year-on-year.

In the first half of 2024, BYD’s NEV sales reached 1,612,983 units, up 28.46% year-on-year. Overseas sales during the same period were 203,404 units, marking a 173.8% increase year-on-year.

Leadership in EV Battery Manufacturing

In addition to its position as the world’s largest NEV manufacturer, BYD is also the second-largest electric vehicle (EV) battery maker. According to South Korean market researcher SNE Research, BYD held a 15.7% share of the global EV battery market in the January-May period, second only to CATL’s 37.5%.
