Polestones 01 EREV Off-Roader: New Cheaper Variant Launched in China
Rox Motor, the high-end NEV brand backed by the founder of Roborock, has introduced a more affordable version of its Polestones 01 EREV off-roader in China. The new model features a smaller battery capacity, making it 50,000 yuan (approximately 7,000 USD) less expensive than the original launch model. Priced starting at 299,900 yuan (about 41,800 USD), this variant aims to boost sales and compete more effectively against rivals like the Li Auto L9.
Pininfarina-designed and manufactured by Beijing Automobile Works (BAW), the Polestones 01 was first unveiled in August 2023. Initially, it came equipped with a 56 kWh ternary NMC battery from CATL, priced between 349,900 and 359,900 yuan (48,800 to 50,200 USD). Despite being positioned as a direct competitor to the Li Auto L9, the Polestones 01 has struggled in sales, achieving only 2,931 units sold from October 2023 to July 2024.
Facing challenges such as limited brand recognition and a smaller sales network, Rox Motor sought to address the high price point of the Polestones 01. The new Standard Range variant now enters the market with a 44.5 kWh battery, also supplied by CATL, offering an electric range of 180 km (CLTC).
Key Features of the Polestones 01 Standard Range:
- Two Trim Levels: Entry-level with a six-seat (2+2+2) configuration and a seven-seat (2+2+3) option.
- Dimensions: 5050/1980/1869 mm for the six-seater and 5295 mm in length for the seven-seater.
- Performance: Equipped with a 1.5-liter internal combustion engine acting as a generator, powering electric motors capable of producing 350 kW (469 hp) peak power. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.5 seconds.
The introduction of this more affordable variant of the Polestones 01 EREV off-roader is expected to make the vehicle more appealing to potential buyers in the competitive Chinese market.
